Nada Surf interviewS

Interview (audio, mp3) with Nada Surf.

Genre: Rock
Home: USA

Stroll in the park (1)

On a chilly afternoon in December, we decided to take a hike with the nice guys from Nada Surf. Away from interviewing in the usual boring hotel room, with our noses in the fresh air, they tell us about their new album Lucky. We walked into the “Vondelpark” in Amsterdam where we learn about the experimental side of the album, why they didn’t make a double with all the material they had and we get to enjoy the Mexican robe of Ira all the time. Reason enough to check this out!

Stroll in the park (2)

After twelve years Nada Surf, these guys still manage to be happy. And although they write tragic lyrics, they give it a happy twist. We ask them why they do that, how they get along with each other and why the most difficult part is leaving the family behind.

“Yeah, I think we make.. happy Goth-music”

Stroll in the park (3)

As we start walking back to the hotel, there is a small discussion going on about the amount of albums they want to put out. They finally agree on ten, if they can speed up the writing process, because that takes too much time and was also the reason they only managed to put 10 tracks on Lucky.

"It’s a fucking great way to make a living"

Stroll in the park (4)

In this last part, they talk about their goals and realize that they actually don’t have any. Ira wants to fill Madison Square Garden though. With a solo project. Right. We discretely suggest maybe they should write a new hit…?

"You are a genius! Holy crap… Guys, what the fuck have we been doing??!"

Video interview with Nada Surf (Bospop)

The American band Nada Surf also played the Bospop festival in Holland. Guest reporter Stacey introduces the band. Singer Matthew is in a good mood and tells what had happened the last 10 years. Nada Surf played their second most earliest gig ever! Watch the interview with Nada Surf.

Interview with Nada Surf in 2005

We spoke to frontman Matthew Caws of Nada Surf in the summer of 2005 about the new album "The Weight is a Gift". We spoke in a nice hotel in Amsterdam centre. Matthew was really open and enthousiastic about this new record so he took the time to tell about it. Recorded in July 2005.
