Paul Godfrey talks about 'Dive Deep' (1)

It took two and a half year to finish, the new Morcheeba record entitled 'Dive Deep'. Still, sole-producer Paul Godfrey experienced the process to make this record as quite easy. In this first part of this video-interview, Paul tells us what went hard, what was easy and how this record helped him to beat a depression.

"This record helped me become a man, because before that I thought I was a woman. Haha"

One of the first collaborators Paul though of was the famous singer Judie Tzuke. Someone who's music Paul listened to as a child. Pretty special, just like all the other guest-vocalists. Part two contains the story of how Paul found all the singers through the wonders of internet.

"She said on myspace; 'It's my dream to sing for you'. We were like, she's crazy, but maybe in a good way. It went really well and she now sings live for us"

There was a lot of material, and therefore a lot to choose from. But despite having over thirty songs, of which eight completely finished, picking the songs was a piece of cake. Especially after a couple of drinks, the music will choose itself, hence Paul. We also talk about the live show, how is he going to do that with that many guest-vocalists?

"I find it hard to listen to my music when I'm sober, so I like to have a few drinks, put the music up around."

This was the first time Paul sole-produced this, but he doesn't consider it as being a solo-record. Better yet, it had a very positive effect on him and the band, including his brother. Also, using different languages is good. Like the French song that Manda -the myspace girl- sung. It was a kind of thank you to the big French fan base.

"They can sing about very basic things, in English it would sound kind of boring. In French or Latin it sounds so romantic."

Morcheeba interview on Lowlands 2005

We did an interview with Ross, the mastermind behind Morcheeba. He just got up when we interviewed him. He had lost his sunglasses and wanted to score some magic mushrooms. Anyways, he had some cool things to say about the new album "The Antidote." Recorded in August 2005.
