The final chapter for Grandaddy

'It's the part of the story where I finally get up and leave the Central Valley'. - Jason Lytle, 2006.

'This album pretty much closes the book on Grandaddy.' That's what Jason said about the last album of the band Grandaddy. Lytle the rest of Grandaddy - guitarist Jim Fairchild, keyboard-player Tim Dryden, bassist Kevin Garcia and drummer Aaron Burtch - knew already in December 2005 that the band was about to stop. "It's been rough. All the dedication, there's no way it could have been easy. But everybody knew already. We just had to sit down and make it official amongst ourselves."

Jason tells in this story that he doesn't know what he's going to do the next years. Recorded in April 2006.

At Lowlands 2003

We had an interview with bass player Kevin Garcia while Grandaddy played at the 2003 Lowlands Festival in Holland. We talked about the structure of the band and their hometown Modesto, California.

"The whole central valley is being taken over by freeways and shopping malls and it's a bad use of wonderful land because they're putting shopping malls where they could be growing food."

Sophtware Slump

In this Grandaddy interview we asked the guys what they'd been up to between their last tour and their latest album 'Sophtware Slump'.

"We tried to remove ourselves from rock 'n roll and reacquaint ourselves with the reasons why we originally started doing this. Which is to create and try to capture a little bit of all the nice things about the world."

Grandaddy interview 97-98

A carreer, singles, EP’s, proper beards, some succes and respect. Things American Indie-band Grandaddy all had. They kept going for quiet some time –about 15 years- but still they called it quits about two, three years ago. Not only to do other important things, but also because Granndaddy didnt turn about the money maker as they hoped it to be. Although they’re involved in many other things, they’re still in our head because their closing record, ‘Just like the fambly cat’, is pretty recent, 2006. This interview takes us back round the period of their first proper release
