The Mars Volta interviewS

Interviews with The Mars Volta

Genre: Progressive / Rock
Country: US

There is one new interview; the first four following records. Labelled (1) to (4)!

Video-interview with Cedric of The Mars Volta (1)

This month the Mars Volta will release their new album; The Bedlam in Goliath. In part one, singer Cedric elaborates on how and why things went kind of hard with the album.

"With eight people on stage and with the gear that we use money is unfortunately a necessity"

Video interview with Cedric of The Mars Volta (2)

"..like he's on PCP or something. It's like an TV-episode were twenty cops are ontop of one guy who, despite his broken arms, is still able to beat people up. That's Thomas Pridgen his drumming", according to Cedric. How they got in touch with Thomas and how he started in the band are some subjects in part two. We've also got some scoops; a DVD, a movie..?

Omar beatboxed and said "You got that? Now we're gonna do this for an hour and improvise"

Video-interview with Cedric of The Mars Volta (3)

In part three Cedric talks about how The Mars Volta is not as serious as many music lovers think. It's not just Frank Zappa that taught them stuff, it's the humour too. Cedric then also speaks about music and singers he's currently listening to, and how that inspired him.

"He has set this standard of what music should be today"

Video-interview with Cedric of The Mars Volta (4)

Cedric sometimes gets annoyed by the countless bands who look alot like Gang Of Four. Lots of times something accessible like a discobeat comes up and it’s often boring Cedric thinks.
And Youtube? 'Use it!', says Cedric. Do your homework and find out who in music did what first.
And yes, they'll be touring a lot, in Japan for example, because it's so bizarre there..

"Why do you sound like them? They already happened.. Why can't you just sound mutated or influenced?"

Interview about Frances The Mute

After two years Cedric and Omar of The Mars Volta return to Holland for their promo talk about the new concept album "Frances The Mute". Recorded in Amsterdam, January 2005.

"We recorded it in several studios all over the world. That made the record so diverse."

Cedric and Omar in 2003

They had a lot of success with their band At The Drive-In but Cedric and Omar wanted something different and they found it in The Mars Volta. Check out the interview to hear more about it!

"We were bored musically with what we were doing!"

Slightly hungover, something Machine Head apparently deals with in a proffesional way, we see Dave talk about the already very succesfull album 'Blackening'. He also speaks about the creative freedom Machine Head has, and about the tour.

"It's good being on the side of good critique because we've been on the other side "

Fair to Midland (video-interview click here)

They just made their major label debute, on Serj Tankian's one, but they do already have a pretty good reputation as far as touring and releasing material is concerned. Now, with their first "big" record out, they took the chance of doing things over and improve stuff. In this interview they tell how this went down.

"We're starting getting a living out of it. Starting is a good word.."
